Concentration pieces
For my concentration, I focused on activism in youth. I wanted to make the point that anyone at any age can make a difference. My first piece, in the top left corner, I have five different activists. They are all different ages and races. I left the faces blank because I want the people who look at my art to visualize how they think the person would look. I want them to interpret the age or their facial expression. Are they yelling a chant? Protesting in silence? Are they angry? I chose five very controversial topics of this day in age. Colin Kaepernick kneeling, school shooting, black lives matter, women's rights and LBGT. The biggest one is the school shooting protest because it is one of the biggest problems right now and youth activists started this movement.
For my second concentration, I went around my school and took pictures of four activists at my school who recently participated in the walkouts. I merged their faces as one because we will be able to my a difference together in numbers. I want people to realize that any activist can make a difference, no matter the age. This piece is focused on younger activists who are trying to make a difference and will continue to try and make a difference. Especially because shootings are still occurring, I want people to stand up for whats right.
For my third concentration, In my eyes, this piece to me is my way of being an activist. I have the ability to be an activist through my art.The focus of this piece is school shootings. So many innocent lives have been lost and I decided to make my own piece towards the issue. I have a picture of the american flag as the background. I used the american flag because this country has had the most school shootings. The stars were taking out to put the names of the students and faculty that have died from school shootings this year. In the stripes, after I complete my research, I am writing about six of the most significant shootings.
